There are many ways people can protect themselves online. These involve digital security measures:
  • Anti-Virus: Software used to scan computer systems for potential viruses and either remove or quarantine them, so they no longer pose a threat
  • Firewalls: A system that tracks and secures data on a network and blocks potentially dangerous programs from accessing the network.
  • Anti-Spyware: Software that scans a system for spyware and removes it, protecting the system from unauthorised people accessing data.
  • Usernames/Passwords: Unique identifiers that prove that you are authorised to access a system.
  • Permissions: The levels of authority that show whether people have authorisation to access data.
  • Encryption: The process of ciphering data so it cannot be understood without the accurate key.
