Professional bodies provide industry certification.

Industry certification is a type of qualification that certifies that people are well trained with appropriate skills and experience in a sector.

There are many organisations that provide industry certifications, notably Cisco which provides certification for skills including networking and security.

Advantaged to industry certification:

  • Provides experience and opportunities to develop skills
  • Opens doors for business opportunities in the future
  • Allows organisations to be sure that their employees are equipped with the appropriate skills and training
Disadvantages to industry certification:
  • Can often be expensive to obtain, often costing thousands of pounds
  • Is a large commitment for something that may not give you a better job
